January 2024

Post by George »

A new board is a great way to start the new year I suppose. Once it's set up I'll post a few photos to brighten up the place a little. New smilies will have to be sorted out as well, the standard ones are awful.

Lovely day here in the Highlands, the sun is out, and there is no wind, it's gorgeous. Almost makes me want to go out gold panning or something.

Yesterday the weather reports were screaming warnings about low temperatures, howling gales and severe snow, and lots of local services closed down for the day. It was 3C, there was no wind, it rained all day and the snow is all but gone. I wish folks would stop watching TV, all it does is spout lies by scumbags who think it's amusing and who laugh at you because they think you're stupid.

Despite all the horrid storm warnings clogging the airwaves, I went for a walk along the shore today. It was so mild I had to take off my gloves. There was no wind, and the snow is almost gone. Glad I don't listen to the shite on the TV now. Here's Brora beach just a few minutes ago.

As I'll be picking up the state pension in a couple of months, it was time to sell the car as I no longer need it. It went off to a good home yesterday. We enjoyed some great adventures together - gold panning, exploring the Highlands, hunting for brochs, photographing, canoeing and many others over the last 3 years. Best car I ever had.

What a wonderful wonderful feeling to sit down in the evening of your life, fulfilled and content. What a ride  Worked on cargo boats, bulk carriers, container ships, oil rigs, fishing boats, lobster and prawn boats, grew up in Hong Kong, been around the world a few times, mastered upstream worm for salmon with over 70 landed in one season, a 16 year career in photography, a 16 year career broch hunting all over the Highlands culminating with discovering the site of the Battle of Mons Graupius, 18 years gold panning around the Highlands, 5 websites, 16 years building over 100 Tomb Raider levels, explored the Highlands as much as any man alive, climbed Munros, passed P Company and received my Red Beret from Col Jones of Falklands fame at Aldershot, got my parachute wings at RAF Brize Norton, personal friend of perhaps the most dangerous and accomplished double agent on planet earth, spent 45 years researching, writing and publishing Walking by the Spirit, and to crown it all I have a daughter somewhere. Would love to see her again. Not bad for an autistic drunken bum who should have been dead in 1977 hey. And I still have eternal life to look forward to
